Garment Care

WASHING AND LOOKING AFTER THE GARMENT

Please note that all our garments haberdashery and embellishing are hand stitched unless specified, therefore please add extra care WHEN CLEANING. Some stitches and appliqués are very fragile and delicate.

CARING FOR SILK

The Items made out of 100% silk can be cleaned satisfactorily in perchlorethylene using the sensitive process but as with all silk fabrics care must be taken during stain removal. However, the fabrics do require special care as they can mark easily even with water or perspiration. If washed treat with care because silk can be damaged by rubbing. Do not wring or spin. Hang to dry. Iron on the wrong side while damp at the recommended setting shown on your steam iron or even less to see how the garment is 'behaving'. Please also note that if you know that your iron makes shiny marks use a pressing cloth, a white piece of normal cotton will do. Be very careful with colour. It has to be white! Make sure that your iron is clean of any residues.

Finally, our advice is that you should NOT keep silk garments in plastic covers. It can lead to discolouration and mould. Use special breathable gown covers.

CARING FOR LACE

Hand wash with luke warm water. Some laces can shrink very easily under hot water. Never touch lace with an iron. Place the garment with the lace facedown. Cover with a towel. Hold the steam iron no more then 1.25 cm (1/2 inch) above the towel.
Some laces do not need ironing at all, just model the lace with your fingers while damp.

CARING FOR SATIN or SATEEN

Hand wash with luke warm water. Again water and perspiration can leave marks. Do not wring or spin. Hang to dry.
Dry iron on synthetic setting shown on your iron. Do not press this fabric too hard or too long. Fabric can be over pressed very easy.

CARING FOR MACHINE EMBROIDERY

Hand wash with luke warm water. Some embroidered fabric can shrink with hot water.
Iron from the wrong side using a dry iron and a press cloth. Do not press too hard on the iron or your embroidery will become flattened.
If the fabric crinkles between the embroider reduce the temperature on your iron and use the iron slowly and gently with no pressure.. Iron the fabric between the embroider with the tip of your iron. Take great care. A degree of dexterity is needed. Please remember not to use a hot iron under any circumstance. The fabrics used are extremely delicate and can be burned very easily.
